Nica Dog II - Leica

As I mentioned in my previous post, the dogs in Nicaragua come in all sorts of shapes and sizes.  Leica, the resident pooch at a hotel that I stayed, was certainly no exception.  Her ancestry is anyone’s guess, but my money is on her being a cross between a dog and a dinosaur.  Despite being a rare living descendant of a prehistoric creature, Leica’s beginnings were pretty modest.  Her owner chose her over a set of booster cables and a steering wheel cover, all of which were simultaneously thrust into his car window by keen salespeople at a busy intersection in Managua (the capital city of Nicaragua).  Leica spends most of her day basking in the sun, but takes breaks now and then to solicit hotel guests to scratch her head.

Nica Dog

A few months ago I had the pleasure of spending two weeks in Nicaragua on vacation.  Nicaragua is probably not at the top of most people’s lists of vacation destinations, but that’s just what attracted me to it.  When I get away I like to stay off the beaten track.

I still haven’t finished sorting through all my pictures of the gorgeous things that I saw.  One of these days I’ll get around to posting photos of the sandy beaches, tropical forests, giant volcanoes, and colonial cities that I visited, but until then you will have to settle for more dogs!

There are very few pure-bread dogs in the country so they all look a little unique.  They do however share one thing in common - all looking a bit pathetic.  This little guy was trying to convince the patrons of the restaurant that I was at to share a portion of their meals with him.  Judging by how skinny he was I don’t think he’d quite figured out the right technique.

Sebastian Gets Neutered!

My baby boy has finally grown up.  Two weeks ago I took my golden retriever, Sebastian, to the vet for that oh-so-important right of passage - getting neutered!  I’m pretty sure that he was more upset about wearing the ‘cone of shame’ than he was about getting his balls chopped off.  The sight of a dog wearing a cone is always pretty pathetic/hilarious, but Sebastian really looked like a goof when he managed to snap off a portion of his cone while running up the stairs.  The duct tape reinforcements were the icing on the cake.
